Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the last day of Trimester 1. It was a successful trimester full of learning and fun activities.I really enjoyed getting to know your kids and I think of them as my family.

Tomorrow will be a fun day we will watch a movie and the students can come out of school uniform.

School Spirit T-Shirt

The school is pleased to offer each student the chance to purchase a GP School Spirit T-Shirt. The t-shirt is designed by students to promote the values upon which our school is founded.

You received a copy of the Order form last week that has details of the sizes and price.

It costs 130 LE and the dead line to pay is Sunday 16th December 2012.

Christmas Concert

We will be having the Christmas Concert on Thursday 13th December. It will start at 9:30 for Grades 1 and 2.

If you wish to pick up your child after the concert, please send a note by tomorrow.

Christmas Concert Cancelled Tomorrow

Due to the current events please note that Christmas concert will be cancelled tomorrow. We will keep you updated on the new date if it were to be rescheduled.

Christmas Concert

We are having the Christmas Concert this Thursday 6th December 2012. The show will start at 1 pm for Grades and 1 and 2. It will end at 2:30, if you wish to pick up your child after the show, please send us a note tomorrow. The school will not change transportation on the same day.

Please make sure your child is dressed in green or red tops and black trousers. If they purchased the cape and hat, we will give it to them on Thursday.

Half Day Tomorrow

This Week's Learning

We have been very busy this past week with our reading assessments.. The students are doing a great job in reading. All of the groups moved at least one level up.

This week we will be learning many new exciting things.

Math: We will learn how to read different types of graphs.

Language Arts: We will work on writing friendly letters and we will work on editing our stories.

Science: We are still working on what Scientists do and the different tool they use.

Social Studies: We will be finishing up our unit on landforms and bodies of water.

Tissue Supply

Christmas Concert and This Week's Learning

You will get a note today concerning the Christmas concert that will be held on December 6th 2012.The school is providing christmas hats for 70 EGP, if you wish to buy one please send the money enclosed in an envelope no later than Wednesday 28th November.


This week we will be doing the following:

Language Arts: We will work on reading comprehension skills. The students will learn how to read to find information and main ideas.

Math: We will continue working on addition and subtraction. The students will work on mixed practice.

Science: We will learn about the Scientific Method and apply it to some experiments.
Social Studies: We will continue working on landforms.

This Week's Learning

This week will be learning the following:

Language Arts: We are working on our writing and reading everyday. This week we will learn about contractions. We will also learn to differentiate between fact and opinion.

Math: Today we started subtraction with regrouping. Some students are still struggling with the concept, please dont worry we will work on regrouping this whole week.

Science: We will have a Science quiz on plants and we will learn about the different enviornments.

Social Studies: We will continue studying the surface of the earth. The kids love the Oceans song, you should listen to it :)

Art: We will look at the work of Kandinski and do our own paintings inspired by his work.

Sports Day

We are having the Elementary Sports Day this Thursday 22nd November 2012. The students will leave early on that day. Buses will leave the school at 12:00 pm. If your child goes home by car, please make sure to pick them up at that time.

There will be different teams, so each child will wear a certain color tshirt. They can wear PE trousers or any sweat pants.

Teams:
Red Tshirt: Ali H, Hussein, Marwan, Mohamed, Yassin.
Blue Tshirt: Ali, Kareem, Malak M, Malak, Zeina.
Green Tshirt: Amr, Layal, Youssef.
Yellow Tshirt: Dareen, Mahmoud, Rowena, Seba.

Also please send an extra tshirt as there will be some fun water games. This way they can change if they get wet.

Transportation Change Notes

The school administration will not accept any transportation change on half days or short days unless you notify them one day ahead. This is for the safety and welfare of the students.

Value of the Month

Our value this month is Responsibility. The children are learning that responsibility comes in many different ways. At school they are responsible for unpacking their bags, taking care of their lunch during garden time, doing their classroom jobs and of course finishing their work! Does your child have responsibilities at home? Some responsibilities at home could be packing their bag before they go to bed, cleaning up their toys or having chores around the house.

Book Character Costumes

This Wednesday we are celebrating the end of "Reading Week". The students will come to school wearing a costume of a book character. We discussed what they can wear today and here are some ideas:

- They cant come dressed as a cartoon character such as Sponge Bob or Ben Ten.

- If they dont want to dress up, they have to come wearing the school uniform.

- Be creative when making your costume you can use old clothes, construction paper and any items you find at home.

The kids thought of the following characters:

- Miss Nelson
-Miss Viola Swamp
- Dr. Seuss
- Fancy Nancy

We are trying to read 100 books by Wednesday so encourage your child to read a lot at home this week.

Sitara Trip

We are very excited about our trip to Sitara. The kids are looking forward to watching the play and interacting with the cast.

Here are some reminders:

- The students are expected to wear their school uniform.
- The food policy still applies and any prohibited food items will be taken away.
- There is no buying there, so please dont send any money with your child.
- Mobile Phones are not allowed.
- The students will return to school after the trip and its a normal school day.

Spelling

We will be starting our spelling tests this week. Every Sunday I will provide the students with the spelling words (They are the basic words in the Journeys books) and they will get tested on them every Thursday. Check the homework section every Sunday to know where the words are in the book.

We will also be working on "Dolch Words" which are words they should know before moving to 3rd Grade. These words will not be included in the spelling tests as we will practice them in class and we will have surprise tests for these words.

This week the spelling test will be next Sunday as Thursday we have the trip.

Grade 1 and 2 Values

Grade 1 and Grade 2 are learning about Values. Each month the teacher will pick a value for the children to learn about. This is helping the children to learn how to play nicely with their friends, take care of themselves and respect people around them.

This month, the Value is Friendship. The children will be given a Value card if a teacher catches them showing friendship. The child then puts their card in a draw box. Every 2 weeks, Grade 1A, Grade 1B, Grade 2A and Grade 2B will meet for a Values Celebration. We will talk about the Value, and we will also draw 4 names from the box. These 4 children are chosen randomly! They will have morning snack in the Elementary office with Ms. Sanaa as a special prize! They will have hot chocolate in the cold months, and some popcorn in the warm months!

I am looking forward to seeing our kids showing the values!

Friendship is having kind words to other people, helping people, giving a hug or playing with someone who you don't always play with.

Missing Supplies

Dear Parents,

Please make sure you have sent the correct supplies. We have some students missing folders and sketchbooks.

Please make sure they have:
- 2 sketch books (Science and Social Studies)
Most students only got one sketchbook and we need them urgently as all our Science and SS activities are done using them.

- Three folders (Red,Green,Yellow)
- Transparent home folder

Leveled Readers

Starting today the students will start getting their "leveled books" with them home. They will be in their red folders. Please make sure they read it and bring it back the next day to school.

Your child will bring a book around 3-4 times a week.

Please keep them in the "Red Folder" so that they dont get ripped, if a book is ripped there is a fine of 100 LE.

Please note that next Thursday 4th October will be a half day for students. They will leave at 12 pm. If your child leaves by car, please make sure to pick them up at that time.

Home Folder

Please send a transparent folder with your child. This will be the "Home Folder". It will contain the channel book and any note that will go home.

Uniform

The school has informed us that the uniform is now availble in all sizes. You can go buy anything that is missing.

The school is very strict about uniform and starting Sundayany child that is out of school uniform will be sent to the administration office.

Also please label your child's jacket, this was we wont lose them.

There was a problem in  the photocopying today, therefore I wasnt able to send the Language Arts worksheet. I will send it with you on Sunday.

Library Books

This is a reminder that tomorrow is our Library day. Please send the library book in its folder with your child. There is a 5 LE fine for late books.

Healthy Food

Please send healthy food with your child to school everyday. The school is adapting a healthy eating system, therefore any unhealthy food will be taken away.

These items are not allowed and will be taken away if they are with your child:
- Chocolotes (Including Nutella Sandwiches)
- Chips
- Candy
- Chewing Gum
- Soda Drinks

Food that will be taken away will be available in the KG office if you want to collect it. This is for the benefit of your child. Eating healthy improves children energy levels, support growth and development and prevents diseases.

Channel Books

The students received their "Channel Books" yesterday. Please make sure to send it everyday with your child. This is my preferred method of communication.

Please also make sure to send the Journeys and Math book everyday. I check it only on Sundays but sometimes we use them in the classroom.

Our First Week

We had a great back to school week. I got to know all the children and we are always engaged in some great activities.

I have been doing some assessments to know the level of students in English and Math. We will continue this week with some more assessments including reading and spelling assessments and we will also start working on the Grade 2 curriculum. 
In Language Arts we are implementing "Writers Workshop" which will be daily writing in which students will be taught how to write stories independently.

Few Reminders:

- Please send the supplies if you still havent. I need to have all the supplies as ordered in order to start using them. For example, a red folder will be used as the reading folder so make sure that you sent the right color. Thank you for all the parents that sent the supplies.

- Cafeteria: A note was sent home on Thursday regarding the cafeteria procedures. Children will not be allowed to buy by themselves, they have to give me the coupons at the beginning of the day.

- Food: Please do not send any chocolate or chips with your kids. This also includes cakes and Nutella sandwiches.  

-Communication: The channel books are in printing so we should be getting them very soon. Please send me any note in the channel book it is my preferred method of communication. I will reply on the same day. As for emails ,it could take me two days to reply.

GP copybooks and supplies

Hello Everyone,
Please send all the GP copybooks that you received on the first day of school. We will be using these for all subjects. You can send yellow and red covers for the Arabic an Religion.

Please also send the supplies list as soon as possible so that I can sort them out and start using them.

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to our classroom blog. We have a busy and exciting year ahead of us. All our news and special learning experiences will be posted on the blog. The blog is updated on a regular basis so please check it everyday to keep yourself updated with all our classroom happenings.
